OMG! That was great...love this story! So impressed that Dr. Tequila was tracked down and found 30 years later. And I'd add something to finding anything in Mexico - "You just have to look for it, and have a smidge of luck." I would add: You might have to have an open mind and be willing to take a chance!

Oh my goodness, I love this story! I think we can all use a reminder that we can let ourselves think and live as far outside the box as suits as—if that sort of thing calls. 😁

It just made me laugh— and it truly is ‘Mexico’ in every sense of the word.

Any story with an “aspiring” chiropractor is going to be good. Really fun read, Jeanine!

I liked this a lot! In our Costa Rica town, we had a gringo chiropractor who would just ‘help’ people who needed it by just putting his table up on some Saturdays at the ATV shop. No money exchanged, just there if someone needed.

Did he accept tequila shots as ‘payment?’ Maybe it was. . . drum roll . . . Dr. Johnny Tequila! hahahahahahah. Don’t you love the people that can inhabit the world? And it make it kookier, more fun, more wild?

Mexico magic! I once had a pharmacist give me medicine for a jellyfish sting on my hand and arm. He'd point to the bottle of tablets and say, "araña." I finally said "spider?" and mimicked a crawl with my fingers. He assured me it was safe.

The sting went away after a few days and with each dose I gambled mentally if spider powder was worse than jellyfish venom.

¡Tienes cuidado!🕷️🪼🏝️

I haven’t heard of araña! Arnica, which is more for joints etc is common, and considered effective.. There’s so much herbal use in MX, and specifically w. the Maya. I’ve also heard for jellyfish stings plain old lemon -lima juice squeezed on the sting assists.

What a fun story! I wonder, though, if people like Johnny were a manifestation of a particular era and culture. Do you think something like that would still occur today? Even in Mexico?
