I need to go back and read your story from the beginning! I have to admit that I've never been to Mexico, but your descriptions make it sound so very magical...
That was absolutely wonderful, Jeanine! Every single part so full of joy and happiness for you & Paul and everyone else, it seems. And such a perfect house warming and appreciation party you all had on New Year's. This piece is something I could keep handy for reading whenever I need a pick-me-up! A blessed completion of your Casa Maya journey. Honestly, I felt like I was right there. Love the pics of Casa Maya, so awesome!
Thank you, Barbra! You are too kind! It was a wonderful completion of a project! A biggie! And a lifestyle change for sure. My next post is light, on Max our jungle kitty. Thanks again for being a trooper and reading my stuff!!
This whole article had me entranced, imagining how in love with the area you must have been. Beautiful to imagine seeing the stars at night, as someone who's in a very light-polluted city!
Yes. So so dark in those days. Being far out of town, early on we'd occasionally hear boats offshore at night, most likely making exchanges of the nefarious sort. Those exchanges and small boats are long gone. With meteor showers, always lots of shooting stars. In 1998 there was a huge one and we laid on the beach at night on blankets, watching the 'light show.'
Sounds idyllic. I've only seen that in Puerto Escondido and La Paz. Speaking of shooting stars, will you be able to see the comet from where you are this week?
Thanks for this new chapter, Jeanine! It must have been quite a nice feeling to be “done” (I know, nothing is ever done) and to have time to enjoy the lovely environment. Well done!
Another lovely chapter in your saga! I have been wondering, though, if Milton affected your home or not. Have you faced/weathered any major hurricanes? Especially in recent years?
I thought I replied! I’m not at my computer, away right now, so maybe I didn’t! Not bad eastern QRoo. Northern Pueblos, not so good. We went through rough times with Wilma 2005. But Casa Maya made it (Ojala as the Maya say). Lucked out with our good contractor and putting up a beefy sea wall and a three foot deep koi pond that was positioned by luck in the perfect spot to save our house. We could move right back in…the only house of 23 on the beach that could make that claim. The boutique hotel 3 doors down pancaked. I wrote about it and will eventually post. Thanks for asking.
What a fantastic adventure, Jeanine!
Thanks for restack Priya!

That is wonderful to know. Ojala your house continues to stand strong against the elements.
Gracias!
